AUSTRALIAN FREESTYLE MARTIAL ARTS SELF-DEFENSE COURSE
Martial arts are the perfect way to get fit and enjoy yourself while you’re doing it – but there’s also so much more than that. In this 4-week martial arts course, students will not only learn self-defense techniques, but there is a focus on improving Focus, Confidence, and Resilience. The classes are well structured and no one lesson is the same which keeps students engaged and motivated. Your child will work on developing core motor skills, mind and body coordination, and personality. When they learn about self-protection, self-belief, and self-resilience at this stage of life they will have the right foundation for the most challenging years of their lives.
Stuart Bott is a probationary 4th-degree Black Belt in Zen Do Kai and a Level 5 Muay Thai Trainer. He has been training in martial arts since 1993. He is also currently a PE teacher with USD 489. He has taught in schools and martial arts academies in both Australia and the United States.

AIKIDO ADULT
(Online Registration under Adult
Leisure)
Aikido means 'the way of harmonizing energy' and is designed to improve a person's internal abilities and to take an assailant down without permanently harming them, so it is less effective than simply causing maximum damage. It is a good option for those who seek a pathway to personal growth, peace, and de-escalation, and it is not a good pathway for those wanting to fight with maximum efficiency (which typically involves causing maximum damage) or who want to enter combat sports competitions as this is not what it is built to do. This class joins our continuing adult classes and is appropriate for people of a variety of ages and physical abilities (all of our techniques can end with a stretch, simple fall, or more martial fall, depending on the person's abilities).
Entry Deadline: October 9
Entry Fee: $40.00

YOUTH AIKIDO
Classes start with stretches, basic front and back falls, footwork/body movements, and some strikes (though we emphasize that striking in Aikido is to help our partners practice realistic defense, not to go out and hit or kick others). We then do warmup games/races (these involve challenging movements like spinning bear crawl for stabilizer muscles, backward frog jumps, backward skipping for coordination, etc.), front and back rolls, and then (pending on the day's topic) a variety of games to teach martial skills and/or partner techniques (usually simple throws). Throughout we emphasize life principles (respect, humility, loving others) and some cultural components (Japanese language and cultural concepts).
