HRC coordinates several races and running events each year, in addition to hosting the HRC Runner’s Club for adults and Rec Runners for kids (see Youth Wellness)

HRC RUNNERS CLUB
This is a runner’s club designed for those who love to run. We will meet weekly and be part of a group with a common interest and love for running. The annual fee includes a running jersey and a discounted entrance fee to HRC running and triathlon events, excluding the Brain Freeze and Dash for Disabilities. You may choose to get additional individualized running programs from 5k, 10k, 1/2, and Full Marathons.

BRAIN FREEZE FUN RUN/WALK – BE A SUPERHERO
Join us on May 3, 2025, for the 5th Annual Brain Freeze Walk/Run! Embrace your inner superhero as you race through our fully paved 1-mile walk or 5K Run/Walk. Walkers, runners, bikers, and strollers are welcome as we unite to support the HRC Youth Scholarship Fund. Be a hero in your community—register today and make a difference!

NATIONAL RUN DAY
This day is designated for you runners to show your passion for running. It is also a good day for beginners to begin a life-changing commitment to running. Whether you run a few miles or just around the block, by yourself or with our group of friends. This is a perfect day to go for a run! Whatever the distance, National Running Day is about putting one foot in front of the other.

DASH 4 DISABILITIES FUN RUN
Under IDD or Races for Online Registration
This year we will host our 14th annual Dash 4 Disabilities FUN RUN! This run will consist of your choice of a 1-mile run/walk or a 5K run/walk. The run will not be timed, and the proceeds will go to help support the intellectual or developmental disability (IDD) programs held by HRC. Our goal is to make it so these programs are inexpensive for our participants. Don’t miss out on this fun event, and a great way to give back and make our community a better place for people of all abilities. Sponsors for this event include DSNWK, Papa Murphy’s, and HESS Services.

JUDD’S SUMMER SLAM TRIATHLON
Hays Recreation Commission, Progressive Physical Therapy, and Papa Murphy’s Take ‘n’ Bake Pizza of Hays are proud to offer our annual Summer Slam Triathlon. Come take on a 400-meter swim, a 12-mile bike ride, and a 5k run solo or as a team.
Kids sign up for the Judd’s Kids Division (14 & under) and complete a 100m swim, 5K bike ride, and 1mi run. Proceeds from the Judd’s Kids Division will benefit the Judd’s Journey Project, in memory of Judd Cherryholmes, that brings awareness to Trisomy 18 and infant loss. Proceeds will go towards providing resources and support for families who suffer the loss of an infant child.

All participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt. Door prizes are handed out and medals are awarded to winners of each division. Sign up at raceentry.com.

FREE SPIRIT 5K/10K RUN
The Free Spirit Run is being held in memory of Jordyn Claiborn, who was killed in a car accident on September 11, 2009. All proceeds for the run will benefit the Free Spirit Award at Hays High and the Jordyn Claiborn Memorial Scholarship at the FHSU Herndon Clinic for Speech and Language. The run is named in honor of the way Jordyn lived her life - Free. The Free Spirit Run will feature a 5K and 10K division as well as a “Free Spirit” division for those who want to contribute and set their distance. Sign up at raceentry.com.
