BABYSITTERS 101
Are you looking for a job that involves kids? Do you want to babysit but don't know how to get started? This course gives participants the knowledge, skills, and confidence to care for infants through school-aged children. Topics include safety issues, preventing injuries, getting a job, daily planning activities, and scheduling snack time.  Hands-on with pretend babies. Each participant will receive a handbook, snack, and other resources to get them started. CPR is not included in this course.

AERIAL YOGA 4 TWEENS
Come fly with us! Tween aerial yoga is designed to encourage your child’s quest for a physical challenge! Not only does it promote better balance, confidence, strength, and courage, but it also trains the body and mind not to be afraid of trying new things. In class, your yogis will be introduced to the aerial hammocks and each week will build on what they learned the prior week.  They will have time to explore, create, and mindfully play in the hammocks both structured and independently. Clothing please wear a T-shirt and long pants no zippers or metal pieces.

SUMMERTIME ADVENTURE
Kids start your summer adventure with us at the HRC. Meet us in the morning for some sports, games, and other activities in the gym. We will load the bus and head out to an area park for some outdoor games and activities.  Before we head back to HRC for pick up we will stop at the ARC park to cool down in the water.  Snacks and drinks will be provided for the morning activity. Bring your running shoes, swimsuit, and towel. Pick-up will be at the Hays Recreation Center!

AUSTRALIAN FREESTYLE MARTIAL ARTS SELF-DEFENSE COURSE
Martial arts are the perfect way to get fit and enjoy yourself while you’re doing it – but there’s also so much more than that. In this 4-week martial arts course, students will not only learn self-defense techniques, but there is a focus on improving Focus, Confidence, and Resilience. The classes are well structured and no one lesson is the same which keeps students engaged and motivated. Your child will work on developing core motor skills, mind and body coordination, and personality. When they learn about self-protection, self-belief, and self-resilience at this stage of life they will have the right foundation for the most challenging years of their lives.
Stuart Bott is a probationary 4th-degree Black Belt in Zen Do Kai and a Level 5 Muay Thai Trainer. He has been training in martial arts since 1993. He is also currently a PE teacher with USD489. He has taught in schools and martial arts academies in both Australia and the United States.

SAMURAI BOOTCAMP
This class is best for those who want to focus and learn as we cover the basics of using a wooden katana (bokken) and also a wooden jo staff. We will do strikes, blocks, movements, patterned movements (kata), attack and defense exercises, and if we get far enough some disarmament/throwing with the staff. In addition, we will cover some cultural and language concepts.

MCKIDS DAY AT LARKS PARK
Spend a McGreat day at Larks Park! The day will start with a game of McKid Ball with Lark’s players coaching and pitching to each team. After McKid Ball enjoy lunch, provided by McDonald’s of Hays. Larks players will also be on hand for autographs. Participants will return to Larks Park that evening to run on the field for the starting lineup with the Larks, throw out the first pitch, and watch the Larks take on the opposing team. McDonald’s of Hays will sponsor the Larks game providing free admission for the general public. McKids Day at Larks Park is sponsored by McDonald’s of Hays along with support from the Larks Baseball Team and the HRC. Every child will receive a t-shirt, if signed up by July 17, that the Lark players can sign at the end of the morning.

LEARN TO PLAY MAGIC THE GATHERING
The first Friday, June 14, we will teach basic game mechanics and help people learn to play the game on a fundamental level. This will involve 60 card decks that participants get to keep; on Friday, June 21 we will use the same 60 card decks in a multiplayer format. We will then move to the Commander multiplayer format with Commander decks (MSRP Approx. $47.50) that participants will also get to keep on Friday, June 28. Finally, we will play a booster draft (typically costs $22.50—price included in participation fee) on July 5 (players draft 3 packs of Magic the Gathering and get to keep all cards drafted/decks built. They then play these decks against others in the booster draft tournament).

LEARN TO PLAY POKEMON
All players will get a complete starter deck that they will keep. We will teach basic rules and game mechanics and help people learn their (unmodified) starter decks through casual play the first weekend and a simple tournament structure the second weekend. On the third Saturday, we will have a tournament in which the participants are allowed to modify their decks, and we will give out some prizes. The last Saturday we will have a larger tournament that participants can come to using any deck they own (including the deck we have provided them, modified or unmodified), and we will give out bigger prizes as we celebrate the last program day.

KANSAS HUNTER EDUCATION CLASS – FALL SESSION
Kansas Hunter Education teaches new hunters to be ethical, safe, and knowledgeable. The course consists of subjects covering hunter responsibility, ethics, fair chase, history of firearms, firearms basics, ammunition, basic gun safety, field safety, bow hunting, conservation, and wildlife management, wildlife of Kansas, outdoor emergencies, Kansas hunting regulations, and boating safety for hunters. The traditional hunter education course is organized and conducted by volunteer instructors. All parents are welcome to attend classes with their children.      Students are REQUIRED to attend both days.

28TH ANNUAL YOUTH OUTDOOR FESTIVAL
Area conservation groups and businesses have teamed together to offer a FREE day of target shooting for youth. All target shooting materials and equipment are supplied for the event which offers trap shooting, skeet shooting, archery, air rifle / BB gun, muzzleloader, small-bore rifle, computerized target shooting, paintball target shooting, BASS Casting Kids, and fur harvesting demonstrations.
This is an excellent opportunity to introduce youth to the world of shooting sports, hunting, fishing, and fur harvesting. Hunter Education Certification is not required, but participants must be accompanied by an adult. Persons specializing in their field of shooting will closely supervise youth at each station. Registration for the event will be completed on-site and participants can enjoy a free lunch.

DOGGIE PLAY DAY
Meet at the Hays Aquatic Park for a doggie day of fun. During the Annual Dog Swim, come over to a special area where your dog can paint your dog’s paws, play with some toys, or have a special treat.  All dogs must have current vaccinations including rabies to enter the park. Owners must be in control of their pet(s) at all times, with two pets per guest max. Please note that this is open to all dogs so come with the equipment as needed to keep your dog under control. You will also be responsible for cleaning up after your dog.
