REFUND POLICY
Your satisfaction is important to us.  Due to program costs, including instructors, supplies, and to help maintain our minimum numbers, we ask for your cooperation when requesting a refund or credit.  Our policy is to provide a full refund or credit, your choice, to anyone who gives us two (2) business day’s notification prior to the start of class.  Anything after the two (2) business days will not receive a refund/credit unless your spot can be filled.
TRIP REFUND POLICY
Trips that require advance ticket purchase no refunds will be issued – see trip description.  Trips with not requiring advance tickets a full refund will be issued if cancelled by the Deadline date.  After the Deadline there will be a $5.00 processing fee charged, up until two days prior to the trip when no refund will be given.

 

These are some of the classes we have targeted for our participants that are over 55 years young.  We encourage you to register for the classes in the Adult section or the Family section as well.  Also, we encourage you to let us know about other activities that interest you.  We will do our best to match your interests with an opportunity to participate.The Hays Recreation Commission intends for all of its programs to be accessible to everyone.  If you require a reasonable accommodation for a service or program please notify the HRC office with sufficient notice so that arrangements can be made.  For any of the trips we offer, please note that some of the destinations are not as accessible as others.  Please call Gail at the HRC office if you have questions prior to signing up for a trip.

PICKLE BALL
The fastest growing sport in America is especially popular for Senior’s as it is played on a smaller court (the size of a badminton court). It is played with a paddle (larger than a ping pong paddle) and a whiffle ball. The balls are furnished, and there are paddles to use. Don’t be left out come and join the fun!

MONDAY NIGHT PINOCHLE
All you have to do is show up for a great night of Pinochle.  Bring your own partner or come alone and pair up with someone.  We will meet each Monday from 7:00 – 9:00pm at the Recreation Center in the Marcy Allenbaugh Conference Room.  Wal-Mart of Hays will provide the pop.  The HRC will provide the popcorn, cards and other supplies.  You supply the FUN!!!  This program is open to anyone age 18 & older.  The program is free of charge although donations will be accepted each night to offset the cost of supplies and the supervisor.

TUESDAY & THURSDAY BRIDGE TIME
Are you over 55 and love playing Bridge?  If you are, come on out to the Recreation Center and play.  Get together with your friends and meet some new ones while you play this great card game.  This program will meet every Tuesday & Thursday from 1:00 – 5:00pm.

WEDNESDAY WALKERS BREAKFAST
On the third Wednesday of every month, the Hays Recreation Commission will be offering a light/healthy breakfast for everyone interested in using our gyms as a walking track.  This is great chance to get involved in our walking program and meet others who also walk in our gyms.

THURSDAY NIGHT PITCH
Join us on Thursday nights for a fun evening of playing pitch.  This program will meet from 7:00 - 9:00pm at the Recreation Center in the Dale Allenbaugh Conference Room.  This program is open to anyone age 18 and older.

TAI CHI SENIORS
Tai Chi Senior is a proactive origination in China and has been used for many years to promote health and well-being.  It has been seen that Tai Chi can help to improve balance and relaxation.  Tai Chi consists of slow, fluid movements, which are done in a standing position.  This class is geared toward senior adults and beginner Tai Chi participants. This class will also bring to you standing yoga poses that will complete your over all mind and body. Please sign up but pay the day of classes.

A NIGHT AT THE SYMPHONY
Join your friends for an evening of American and English masterworks with the Hays Symphony. From the countryside of England to the broad expanse of America’s heartland, this season promises a melting pot of music. All this at FHSU’s Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center

DEARLY DEPARTED
Join the fun at the Dodge City Depot Theater as we watch a performance.  In the Baptist backwoods of the Bible Belt, the beleaguered Turpin family proves that living and dying in the South are seldom tidy and always hilarious. Despite their earnest efforts to pull themselves together for their fathers funeral, the Turpin’s other problems keep overshadowing the solemn occasion.  Amidst the chaos, the Turpins turn for comfort to their friends and neighbors, an eccentric community of misfits who just manage to pull together and help each other through their hours of need, and finally, the funeral. Meal is included in the price.

TREASURES IN ELLSWORTH TRIP
Come with us for a full day of activities in Ellsworth.  We will start the day at Ellsworth Prison. On this trip we will view the prison yard, cells and learn what the prisoners do on a daily base.  After a 3 hour tour we will head downtown for lunch. Before we head back we will travel to Fort Harker. This day is a full day with walking involved so wear your comfortable shoes. Your lunch is NOT included.

THE GHOST IN THE MEADOW
Two sisters have relocated from Manhattan to an old farm house in upstate New York.  Soon after their arrival, they realize they may not be alone in the house.  An old boyfriend drops in for a visit and after witnessing the strange occurrences, decides to recruit a psychic to try and calm the restless spirits.  Sponsored by Russell’s Community Theater.

CHICKEN FOOT
Chicken foot also known as Chicken Dominoes, a game of the “trains” family, similar to Mexican Train.  The object of the game is to have the lowest score at the end of the last round.  For each round, the object is for the player to empty their hand of dominoes by playing them on the board.

CORNSTOCK MUSIC FEST 2017

DISCOVER MANHATTAN
Join us on an exciting trip to Manhattan for a day of interesting sites. First stop is at The Flint Hill Discovery Center followed by lunch at the Blue Moose in Downtown Manhattan. After lunch you will have time to walk off your food as you have time to hit some of the downtown stores.  Next stop will be the Riley County Historical Museum before heading to Call Hall for an ice cream treat.   Lunch is not included in your fee.

SENIOR FUN & FITNESS
Join the Hays Recreation and the Fort Hays students who participate in a class called Leisure Programming for the Older Adults, as we share ways to get and stay healthy.  There will be a variety of stations that you can learn things like, chair band therapy, poker walk and a lot more.  We will have hand outs, water, and a light snack.  There will be give aways, don’t miss out!!

Join us at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility Spiritual Life Center for the Tenth Annual Christmas On the “Inside”   We will enjoy the sounds of the choir and praise band with sounds of Christmas songs. This is a free concert but part of your entry fee will be given as a donation to the Spiritual Life Center.  Please no cell phones, bags or purse will be allowed.  Crafts will be available for purchase.  Cash, check or credit cards will be accepted.  We will stop at Pretty Boy Floyd Steaks & Shine for supper before the show.  Supper is not included in your fee.

BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS
Sit down for dinner with the Jerome family in Neil Simon’s greatest comedy.  Set just before WWII, this hilarious and warm-hearted comedy is told by Eugene, just 13 and discovering life, struggling with who he is, and girls.  This family is everyone’s family: tender, infuriating, and funny.  This performance is brought to us by Salina Community Theater. FOLLOW THE ARCH & MORE
Are you ready to travel on a trip to a two story structure that represents the gateway to the Great Platte River Road Archway in Kearney, Nebraska?  We will trace the history of the Oregon trails to the fiber optic future worlds of tomorrow.  After a tour we will enjoy lunch at the Chuck Wagon.  Our next stop is The Frank House which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was built in 1889.  Before heading back home we will go to some of the local shops.   Meal is not included in price.
