**NEW**REFUND POLICY

Your satisfaction is important to us.  Due to program costs, including instructors, supplies, and to help maintain our minimum numbers, we ask for your cooperation when requesting a refund or credit.  Our policy is to provide a full refund or credit, your choice, to anyone who cancels by the deadline.  Anything after the deadline, will not receive a refund/credit unless your spot can be filled.


TRIP REFUND POLICY
Trips that require advance ticket purchase no refunds will be issued – see trip description.  Trips with not requiring advance tickets a full refund will be issued if cancelled by the Deadline date.  After the Deadline there will be a $5.00 processing fee charged, up until two days prior to the trip when no refund will be given.

 

These are some of the classes we have targeted for our participants that are over 55 years young.  We encourage you to register for the classes in the Adult section or the Family section as well.  Also, we encourage you to let us know about other activities that interest you.  We will do our best to match your interests with an opportunity to participate.The Hays Recreation Commission intends for all of its programs to be accessible to everyone.  If you require a reasonable accommodation for a service or program please notify the HRC office with sufficient notice so that arrangements can be made.  For any of the trips we offer, please note that some of the destinations are not as accessible as others.  Please call Gail at the HRC office if you have questions prior to signing up for a trip.

ON GOING ACTIVITIES - Join us for these great ongoing activities.
 
PICKLE BALL
The fastest growing sport in America is especially popular for Senior’s as it is played on a smaller court (the size of a badminton court). It is played with a paddle (larger than a ping pong paddle) and a whiffle ball. The balls are furnished, and there are paddles to use or feel free to bring your own. Don’t be left out come and join the fun! 
This is held during Open Gym Time.  You will share with others using the gyms. 
 
MONDAY NIGHT PINOCHLE
All you have to do is show up for a great night of Pinochle.  Bring your own partner or come alone and pair up with someone.  We will meet each Monday from 7:00 – 9:00pm at the Recreation Center in the Marcy Allenbaugh Conference Room.  The HRC will provide the popcorn, pop, cards and other supplies.  You supply the FUN!!!  This program is open to anyone age 18 & older.  The program is free of charge although donations will be accepted each night to offset the cost of supplies and the supervisor.
 
TUESDAY & THURSDAY BRIDGE TIME
Are you over 55 and love playing Bridge?  If you are, come on out to the Recreation Center and play.  Get together with your friends and meet some new ones while you play this great card game.  This program will meet every Tuesday & Thursday from 1:00 – 5:00pm.
 
TAI CHI SENIORS
Tai Chi Senior is a proactive origination in China and has been used for many years to promote health and well-being.  It has been seen that Tai Chi can help to improve balance and relaxation.  Tai Chi consists of slow, fluid movements, which are done in a standing position.  This class is geared toward senior adults and beginner Tai Chi participants. This class will also bring to you standing yoga poses that will complete your over all mind and body.

THURSDAY NIGHT PITCH
Join us on Thursday nights for a fun evening of playing pitch.  This program will meet from 7:00 - 9:00pm at the Recreation Center in the Dale Allenbaugh Conference Room.  This program is open to anyone age 18 and older.

APPLE CIDER SOCIAL

ROSEWOOD RANCH AND WINERY
Nestled in the rolling plains just west of Great Bend you will find this ranch home. The Ranch is home to nationally acclaimed therapeutic horse-riding program and to world champion horses, for which their wines are named.  There is only one winery in the nation that is devoted to providing employment opportunities to people with development disabilities. That one special place is Rosewood Winery. We will have a box meal to eat on the go before having a tour of the ranch followed by a wine tasting. If time permits we will stop at the Wine Cellar store before heading home.

BAD YEAR FOR TOMATOES
Myra Marlowe, fed up with the pressures of her acting career, leases a house in a tiny New England town. Her longtime agent is finally letting her relax a bit, but her nosy neighbors are a different matter. In an attempt to gain some privacy, she invents a crazy sister who is "locked in an upstairs room". Complications arise when the local handyman develops feelings for Sister Sadie and the church ladies decide it is their duty to save Sadie's soul. A desperate announcement from Myra brings on the sheriff and an accusation of murder. Sponsored by Russell’s Community Theater.

UNDERACHEIVER RACE
Do you want to run or walk a race but just feel like you can’t do it?  This .50 mile race featuring beer, coffee and donut station is the marathon for you!  Start with a drink of beer or coffee, stop at a station for a donut break and finish with another drink at the finish line.  Fun activities for the underachiever along the road.  Anyone can join the fun from never stepping on a race track to sprinting to the finish line this will be a morning of laughs. Sponsored by A & A Coors and Daylight Donut.

HISTORICAL PLACES
Our trip will include a viewing the William F. and Ida Schaeffler in Hillsboro and then travelling to Peabody for lunch at The Morgan House.  After lunch our day will include the Historical Museum and Peabody Printing Museum.  If time permits we can walk downtown to Peabody’s Downtown.  Lunch is included with finger food, soup sandwich and dessert.

TITANIC DINNER

Looking for something you can’t find? Travel with me to Salina as we spend the day shopping.  We will hit stores like Hobby Lobby, Dollar Tree, Big Lot and the Mall.  Have your walking shoes on and enjoy the day buying or just browsing.  Your meal is NOT included in your entry fee.

SENIOR FUN & FITNESS
Join the Hays Recreation and the Fort Hays students who participate in a class called Leisure Programming for the Older Adults, as we share ways to get and stay healthy.  There will be a variety of stations that you can learn things like, chair band therapy, a poker walk and a lot more.  We will have hand outs, water, and a light snack.  There will be giveaways!  Don’t miss out!!

Join us at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility Spiritual Life Center for the Tenth Annual Christmas On the “Inside”   We will enjoy the sounds of the choir and praise band with sounds of Christmas songs. This is a free concert but part of your entry fee will be given as a donation to the Spiritual Life Center.  Please no cell phones, bags or purse will be allowed inside the facility.

We will do the driving to get you there and back safely so you can relax and enjoy the company.

On our trip we will head into Greensburg for a guided tour of the town.  Our stop will include the Big Well, hospital, school, art/history museum and the soda shop.  On the way out of town we will travel to Mullinville to tour the Fromme-Birney Round Barn and M.T. Liggett Metal Sculptures.  Lunch will be included.
