REFUND POLICY
Your satisfaction is important to us.  Due to program costs, including instructors, supplies, and to help maintain our minimum numbers, we ask for your cooperation when requesting a refund or credit.  Our policy is to provide a full refund or credit, your choice, to anyone who gives us two (2) business day’s notification prior to the start of class.  Anything after the two (2) business days will not receive a refund/credit unless your spot can be filled.


TRIP REFUND POLICY
Trips that require advance ticket purchase no refunds will be issued – see trip description.  Trips with not requiring advance tickets a full refund will be issued if cancelled by the Deadline date.  After the Deadline there will be a $5.00 processing fee charged, up until two days prior to the trip when no refund will be given.

 

These are some of the classes we have targeted for our participants that are over 55 years young.  We encourage you to register for the classes in the Adult section or the Family section as well.  Also, we encourage you to let us know about other activities that interest you.  We will do our best to match your interests with an opportunity to participate.The Hays Recreation Commission intends for all of its programs to be accessible to everyone.  If you require a reasonable accommodation for a service or program please notify the HRC office with sufficient notice so that arrangements can be made.  For any of the trips we offer, please note that some of the destinations are not as accessible as others.  Please call Gail at the HRC office if you have questions prior to signing up for a trip.

 

ONGOING ACTIVITES - Join us for these great ongoing activities.

MONDAY NIGHT PINOCHLE
All you have to do is show up for a great night of Pinochle.  Bring your own partner or come alone and pair up with someone.  We will meet each Monday from 7:00 – 9:00pm at the Hays Recreation Center in the Marcy Allenbaugh Conference Room.  The HRC will provide pop, popcorn, cards and other supplies.  You supply the FUN!!!  This program is open to anyone age 18 & older.  The program is free of charge although donations will be accepted to help offset the cost of supplies and supervisor.

TUESDAY BRIDGE TIME
Are you over 55 and love playing Bridge?  If you are, come on out to the Recreation Center and play.  Get together with your friends and meet some new ones while you play this great card game.  This program will meet every Tuesday from 1:00 – 5:00pm.

PICKLEBALL
WE HAVE GROUPS LOOKING FOR PLAYERS!!
 
(We have a group specifically on Wednesday Morning 8am-10:30am)
The fastest growing sport in America, is played on a smaller court (the size of a badminton court). It is played with a paddle (larger than a ping pong paddle, smaller than a tennis racquet) and a whiffle ball. The balls & paddles are furnished, or bring your own.
  We have groups that just hit the ball around for fun, and others that play by the rules.  The idea is just get out and HAVE FUN, and get some exercise!

WEDNESDAY - TAI CHI SENIORS
Tai Chi Senior is a proactive origination in China and has been used for many years to promote health and well being.  It has been seen that Tai Chi can help to improve balance and relaxation.  Tai Chi consists of slow, fluid movements, which are done in a standing position.  This class is geared toward senior adults and beginner Tai Chi participants. This class will also bring to you standing yoga poses that will complete your over all mind and body.

THURSDAY NIGHT PITCH
Join us on Thursday nights for a fun evening of playing pitch.  This program will meet from 7:00 - 9:00pm at the Recreation Center in the Dale Allenbaugh Conference Room.  This program is open to anyone age 18 & older.

LAZY EVENING SUPPER
Enjoy an evening out at the HRC for supper. The meal will be German style with potatoes and dumplings sausage casserole, sour kraut on the side, and dessert.  Come alone and meet new friends or bring them with you.

FOOLS DINNER SHOW
Presented by: Ellsworth Correctional Facility The dinner show Fools. Leon Tolchinksy is ecstatic. He’s landed a terrific teaching job in an idyllic Russian hamlet. When he arrives he finds people sweeping dust from the stoops back into their houses and people milking upside down to get more cream. The town has been cursed with Chronic Foolishness for 200 years and Leon’s job is to break the curse. No one tells him that if he stays over 24 hours and fails to break the curse, he too becomes a Fool. But, he has fallen in love with a girl who is so foolish that she has only recently learned how to sit down. Meal is included.

KANSAS STORYTELLING
Travel with me to Downs for storytelling. We tell stories. We listen to stories. We save stories. Each April since 1994 we honor stories by hosting the Kansas Storytelling Festival. All sessions are held simultaneously at different locations, all within comfortable walking distance. Don't forget to visit the food court at noon. It's near the Gazebo, right in the center of town. Downs, Kansas, is called the "The Town of Many Stories," and rightly so. We tell stories. We listen to stories. We save stories. Meal is not included.

MAKE AND TASTE
Do you every want to try a new seasoning for your fish, chicken or beef?  Are you curious about what seasonings to put on your vegetables before tossing them in the pan?  Have you ever wanted just a small amount of seasoning and not the whole container?  Well this is the class we will make up some seasoning and taste it on different food items and then you get to pick which ones you want to bag up and take home.  This will for sure be a taste and take class you don’t want to miss.

MYSTERY TRIP
It’s back you will travel a long distances to get to our destination. The day will be filled with surprises around every corner.  Be prepared for anything from indoors to outdoors to steps to walking. You never know what this adventure will bring. Come join the craft fair in Hastings, Nebraska as this event showcases products from gifts & handicrafts industry. You will see things from home décor, yard art, clothing, handbags, to gourmet food and candles. This is an inside outside event so pick your comfortable shoes and clothing. The cost of lunch is not included in your fee.

OVER NIGHT TRIP TO LEAVENWORTH
Travel to “Leavenworth” where we can explore Fort Leavenworth, Buffalo Soldier Monument, and C.W. Parker Carousel Museum. We will also get a guided tour of Carrolll Mansion & Victorian Shoppe. Your lunch will be at the Frontier Conference Center and the Depot with the Harvey girls. There is much more to see and do so give us a call for more information.  Breakfast and lunch is included in your fee.

WASHUNGA DAYS

CONCENTRATION
How good is your memory?  Let’s play a game where you have to remember where the other project is placed on the wall.  Everyone is for sure going to get a few laughs while playing this game. Light lunch of sandwich and salad will be provided at the end of the game.

THE NERD 
It is time for another dinner theater performance at the Russell Elk Lodge Community Theater. Willum has often told his friends about the debt he owes to Rick, a fellow GI whom he never met but who saved his life after he was seriously wounded in Vietnam. Willum is delighted when Rick shows up unexpectedly at his apartment but his delight soon fades as it becomes apparent that Rick is a bumbling oaf with no social sense, little intelligence and less tact. As Rick stays on and on, his continued presence leads to one uproarious incident after another.
 Meal is included in your fee.

BOOT HILL
Join us for a day of adventure to Dodge City. The day will include a tour of Boot Hill Distillery with samples, Boot Hill Museum, and an old fashion chuck wagon dinner with a variety show at the saloon to end the night. Supper and samples are included.

We are heading out of town to Wilson, Kansas to enjoy the Czech heritage. We will have a few other activities including a trip to Lucas to the Grassroots Museum.  We may have a few more surprises up our sleeve so let’s head east for some fun. Supper not included.

GOING BACK IN TIME
Join us on an exciting trip to Gossel country Threshing Days.  This annual event promises non-stop fun and history.  Attractions include living history characters, quilting, spinning, and weaving demonstrations using antique machines. Let’s go back in time and see what new adventures we can find.  The cost of lunch is not included in your fee.

VOICES OF THE WIND OVERNIGHT TRIP
Come and join us for a day and evening in Council Grove for an outdoor drama, performed at the Old Riverbed Amphitheater. “The drama will take you back in time to the mid 1850’s and give you a front row seat to hear both sides of the story between Chief Allegawaho, the Kanza (Kaw) Chief and Seth Hays, Council Grove’s first Euro-American resident” Haun said. We will stay overnight at The Cottage House. The Hotel began as a three-room cottage and blacksmith shop build in 1867.  It now has 26 rooms in the main house.  Your meal is NOT included in your entry fee.

Let’s take the train from Abilene to Enterprise and stop at the Hoffman Grist Mill. Want to see how it operates and would you like to take a bag home with you? Make sure you stop by for a visit.  When we arrive back in town we will have lunch and take in some of the towns antique stores. Lunch is on your own.
